Dogs

I’m not much of a pet person, don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate animals, I can enjoy the company of an animal as much as the next person, I just don’t have that weird emotional need wedded to an animal because those links can’t be forged with other human beings, you know the people I’m talking about, people who talk to their animal with the expectation that the animal will actually talk back to them….yeah, those people. In an alienated world where we are less and less connected, pets seem to fill that important void left behind that every human being needs, so I’m not anti pet, I just think some peoples connection to their pets are very needy, and gives an insight as to why the pet owner is a bit of a no mates, I draw the line on cosmetic surgery for an animal ANYONE DUMB ENOUGH too spend money on cosmetic surgery/feed prozac to/or put clothes on their pets lose their right to vote in elections as far as I’m concerned.

All that said, let’s look at the dog mauling in the weekend – now folks, can someone remind me, wasn’t micro chipping of dogs supposed to have stopped all future dog maulings? See how stupid that claim from the Government was, how can a micro chip stop an angry dog? Wasn’t the only reason the micro chipping of dogs even done was because the money for the equipment had already been purchased and this forced the hand of the Government to make it law? And as for dangerous breeds, let’s get rid of them, I don’t buy the ‘there aren’t any bad dogs, just bad dog owners’ bullshit, some breeds are OBVIOULSY much more aggressive, when the hell was the last time a Labrador mauled anyone to death?

So in conclusion, micro –chipping is bullshit, people are a bit odd and needy and clingy with pets and banning dangerous breeds is a must.

Relatives of dog victim don't want charges laid
The brother of a woman mauled to death by two dogs says he does not want the owner prosecuted - because he is the family's nephew. Police are considering charging the owner, known only as Spider, with manslaughter after his pitbull and staffordshire-cross killed Virginia Ohlson. But yesterday, the eldest of her 12 siblings, Tipene Ohlson, said the family had forgiven the dogs' owner."We don't hold it against him. Life goes on," Mr Ohlson said.
"I don't want to see him charged, because what can happen? You're just going to put more stress on him and his family. He's my nephew."

What a curious response.

Anyway - I am not a pet person either, I also don’t like or want children but if people choose to have either provide for them appropriately. Even though I don’t like children I believe we all have social responsibility to accept and be thoughtful towards them and have to intervene if we see one in trouble.

I know a lot of people who, like me, don’t particularly like dogs or kids but get very emotional and angry when they see neglect and cruelty and get even more frustrated when the authorities stand by watching and waiting for the inevitable.

I can't stand stupid people who are an obvious accident waiting to happen. Also don't like that some groups have immunity to the rules and laws most of us are required to follow, is it a coincidence that most of the dogs involved in violent incidents are unregistered, why is registration and restraint not enforced in some areas. Don't like cruelty, apart from anything else the evidence tells us cruelty to animals is a very bad omen.

I see that unregistered and neglected dogs are still roaming the area where this woman was murdered, why is that I wonder. Visit the usual suspect areas (if you dare) and you will see the same sight, neglected mangy dogs roaming looking for they next headline, but it will be no-ones fault just bad dogs, the owners are just wonderful. I guess when the same people have neglected kids that turn violent it’s the kids fault not the owners, after all aren’t some breeds known to be more violent than others.

You’ve got to hand it to bomber his ability to defend a cause he adopts in the face of any event it interesting to say the least. His areas of knowledge and expertise are truly admirable and, almost, unbelievable. I suppose when you have to be right you can spin anything to make it so, in your own mind anyway.

bomber said... ….oh and I forgot to add that pet owners are also aggressively hyper-sensitive regarding their relationship with the pet. ……

I must be misreading things, I thought the cause of the ‘aggressive and hyper-sensitive’ reaction was the completely avoidable (and predicable) death of an innocent person.

If it wasn’t so tragic this story would be boring. How many times have we read the same scenario. Human injured (or killed) by dog, dog unregistered, pit bull type (used to be German Shepard, then Doberman after that Rotweillers were the weapon de-jour, now it is Pit/Staffie…), roaming (sometimes chained), little human companionship, unloved (unlike Bomber I see nothing wrong with people loving a pet, I also see nothing wrong with not loving pets as long as you don’t have any), untrained (or trained to harm), poor people (I would think dogs are an expensive luxury), known problem dog who has hurt people or other animals before, known problem people from a known problem area, people to frightened to report problems to the authorities and when they do authorities do little or nothing…….

Event followed by (understandable) outrage, a few token, symbolic, gestures from Helen, more rules, when we all know the existing ones are not enforced when and where they need to be, more unregistered puppies doomed to a life of violence, misery and neglect on and on it goes. How long before the next headline …. mauled child, guide dog attacked, elderly person seriously injured a few days I would say.

Incidentally I reported a problem dog once, what a joke. The dog ranger did nothing except make me feel like I was the problem and the owner (who was not supposed to know who had complained) proceeded to make my life a misery until I was almost to scared to leave my house, I couldn’t even go into my own garden in safety because the dog would jump my fence, it even came into my sitting room so I had to keep my doors closed all the time, nothing I could do about it, fortunately dog and its dangerous human moved.

Ahhh abusive assumptions, the norm for the blog you will fit in very well.

The fact is the dog was not next-door (thank god) but about 10 houses down the street, I wouldn’t have known the people existed had it not been for the dog problem. The dog roamed long distances from its unfenced home, many people were becoming scared of it and were relieved when it went. Why you assume I would want to look at my neighbours I really don't know. You also assume I blamed the dog – wrong I absolutely blamed the owner and his family, it was sad to see the dog ignored and uncared for.

I am actually quite a nice and thoughtful person, not abusive like you or thoughtless like the dog owner, so your assumption that I did not talk to the owner (several times) first is also wrong and unjustified.

My fence and gate were about 5 feet high, I was amazed when it first jumped over it sure was an athletic dog, the legal limit is 6’ I believe. Not sure how many thousands a replacement would have cost, although that is irrelevant, I think any person is entitled to move about their own property, fenced or otherwise, in peace and safety, however I do like my privacy so I like high fences. I also like security gates (great for keeping the JW’s out) although at 10 grand a hit they are probably out of range for a lot of people. Ideally I would like a 10-foot fence with razor wire at the top to keep people out but that is illegal and I couldn’t afford it anyway.

It’s not all about fences and gates though is it. I guess you aren’t a jogger, cyclist or walker because I think people are entitled to walk, cycle and run in public areas as and when they like without being accosted by animals or people, ahh if only.

I know abuse the norm for some people but I don’t think I should have to accept abuse when it is totally unjustified and when I bent over backwards to be thoughtful, fair and reasonable although I realise now some people just don’t respond to that and see it as a sign of weakness.

You are a dog breeder - mmmmmmmm I hope your animals have better manners than you.

Why the fuck should anyone have to build a fence to keep someone else's dogs out?

It isn't often I agree with Helen Clark but her response to suggestion that "pit bulls" should be banned was pretty much 'Define pit bull - there is pretty much no such breed". The dogs doing the attacking are seldom pure bred, mostly neglected mongrels.

As the second anon above mentioned the current laws aren't properly enforced, new laws aren't going to do anything. If fucking meathead loosers can't be fucked registering their dogs or looking after them, their dogs should be impounded or put down, the rest of us shouldn't have to worry about it and the mangy worm ridden mongrels would be better off.

"No good deed goes unpunished." Bad deeds it seems are another mater.

For once I actually agree with bomber. All you need to do too get rid of these dogs is buy 300 gram piece of juicy red steak and marinated in rat poison for 4hrs. Just through it over the fence, problem solved.

Anon said.....The rest of us shouldn't have to worry about it.......

Why are you worried about it in the first place anon, aww you poor bastard, do you lose sleep over the so called "pit bull" mongrel dogs, shit I'd ring 0800 GETHELPNOW... you sound like your losing it man.

the other thing....

Anon said.....Why the fuck should anyone have to build a fence to keep someone else's dogs out?
Well it would logical, that if the Dog Ranger wasnt going to do shit for her the next best thing would be a BIGGER, STRONGER and HIGHER FENCE, to keep the "Pit Bull" mongrel dog out, or maybe it's just easier to winge and moan thats nothings bein done about it hmmmm,
