Let’s talk about Sex

Sex is a great thing, but there seems to be some sort of movement to ban it – personally I can’t understand the desire to repress our sexuality, our inbuilt sex drives are a healthy and beautiful thing, and the reality is that for a species that has free will (and thus can choose not to continue the race), evolution has set it up that we are always thinking about it, it’s like a constant reminder ‘don’t forget to spread the seed, don’t forget to spread the seed, don’t forget to spread the seed’. So sex is a normal, healthy thing – however religious groups always seem to be very keen to control who you and I can have sex with – why God is so uptight about my sperm is a little beyond me I would have thought he was much more pre-occupied with things much more important than that, oh I don’t know, how about the genocide in Darfur? It is my thinking that it is the repression of our natural desires that fucks with peoples heads when it comes to sex and sexuality, and that a more sensible approach would be to take Jesus out of the bedroom and replace it all with sex education, and when I say sex education – I’m not talking about rolling condoms on bananas, I’m talking about giving young people the tools and self esteem to say no and when to say yes, and when talking about the yes, safer sex has to be the priority.

Currently we only have half the schools in this country running safe sex education programmes because sex education is the only part of the curriculum that the Board of Trustees can dump, and religious groups in NZ get elected to Board of Trustee positions and the sex education part is the first to get dumped, so convinced are some of our religious friends seem to think the mere word ‘condom’ is a greenlight for multi-orifice gangbangs – I like to tell those people that we are talking about schools here, not the NZ Police force – seriously though folks, let’s relax about sex and start talking more – we have one of the highest rates of STDs, teen pregnancy and teen abortion in the OECD – we need to start being honest about these issues now.

US sex-abstinence classes queried
US students attending sexual abstinence classes are no more likely to abstain from sex than those who do not, according to a new study.
Participants in special programmes were just as likely to have sex a few years later as those who did not attend. In the past few years of Republican Party control of Congress, the spending on no-sex-before-marriage education has risen from $10m to $176m a year. Critics have repeatedly said the programmes are not working. They say the money would be better off spent on a comprehensive sex education that would include abstinence.

Conclusions
Social conservatives have long believed that teaching adolescents about sexuality and contraception could encourage them to have sex. They would rather promote abstinence until marriage. The students in this study, which was ordered by Congress, came from a range of big cities across the United States, such as Milwaukee and Miami and from rural communities in Virginia and Mississippi. They were 11 and 12 years old when they entered the abstinence programmes, which lasted one to two years. The researchers also looked at the behaviour of their peers from the same communities who did not attend the classes. The findings show that those who attended first had sex at about the same age as their peers - at 14 years and nine months. The Bush administration has warned against drawing sweeping conclusions from the study.

There are few things I completly agree with you on but this is one and that is what I used to think you did a great job on in your old talk back show, which was you put out to people that thought they were un ususal that they were not and it helped.

As you said its the key in part to sex education and just as much youth suicide and that is empowering our youth to believe in them selves because as much as adults seem to think being a kid rocks, it dont, IT SUCKS. 4th - 6th form are crap years and they are crap in part because we cant talk openly about what is going through their heads.
