Did Police charge the wrong Kahui?

Police adamant they charged the right person
Police are adamant they arrested the right person for the murder of the Kahui twins and say they will not be charging anyone else, including the babies' mother, Macsyna King. "There is no evidence to support a charge against any other person and that includes the mother, Macsyna King," inquiry head Detective Inspector John Tims said last night. "Everyone that was at Courtney Crescent [Mangere] over that weekend was considered a person of interest and we thoroughly investigated each person until we identified Chris Kahui and made the arrest." Mr Tims said the view that Mr Kahui was responsible had not changed after his acquittal and there were no plans to reopen the investigation or act on defence claims that Ms King was responsible. "There is no new evidence. The defence brought no new evidence to trial, there will be no further investigation into this matter. As far as I am concerned the matter is closed - the jury has made their decision."

I’m sorry, but this doesn’t wash – did the Prosecution actually look at the defense evidence? There was enough evidence right from the beginning of this that reasonable doubt could be explored, so much so that it only took the Jury 10minutes to come back after lunch with a verdict – was the decision by the Police based on who they thought a Jury would convict because of the media frenzy over Chris once the babies deaths became public? Are the Police basing prosecution decisions on who the media have fingered because the holes in this prosecution were obvious the moment the defence began and watching the prosecution squirm through that defence gave me very little faith in their abilities to prosecute this case. I wonder how NZ feels, so many voices called for Chris to be lynched before we even had a Court Case, where to now for the anger of those redder necks? While such debates continue it does nothing to actually catch the person who killed those two small babies.

NZ just wants to lynch the whole kahui family. I think macsyna dunnit. Those twins are better off dead when you think about it.

What defence evidence? Bad character on the mother's part? All the defence did was posit a theory based around evidence collected and presented by the police. There was nothing factual behind the defense position apart from a rogue cellular tower reading. This was a circumstantial case from the start. No one ever said any different. The jury simply weren't satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt as to Kahui's guilt. Whether Kahui factually did it or not remains a completely different matter.

"...and get another case going?"

Err, the police said thats it.
Finito.
There isn't going to be another case. Which is the police's way of saying Chris Kahui did it.

"NZ just wants to lynch the whole kahui family."

No, they want to see the murderer brought to justice.
They just have contempt for a family that values the freedom of a murderer to justice for two dead babies.

"I think macsyna dunnit."

Really? Are you one of the twelve?
Why don't you go to the police with your evidence, and then they can charge her.

I only caught snippets of the trial, but I would have thought that even now that there would be a reasonable case for charging the couple jointly with manslaughter. I know the police have washed their hands of the whole thing now, but if they hadn't would it be possible?

Does anybody know if the incidents of child abuse are as badly reported as rape? We hear so many cases of children getting beaten and/or killled - how many don't we hear about? It makes you sick to the stomach doesn't it?

Poor little fellas.

The Kahui family were not co operative with the inquiry by the police. I do not think they were protecting the mother.

The only hard evidence the police had was that Chris was in the home over the critical period and there was no evidence the mother was present.

If Chris did not do it, then the obvious conclusion based on fact, was that another family member did the killing.

The Kahui family members have a good idea of the truth, but they did not tell the police.

To hear that family and their "representatives" talking about the babies " crying from the grave for justice" and to see them standing about "praying" makes me SICK TO THE STOMACH .
The whole lot of them obstructed police from the get-go so that justice couldn't be done.
I don't feel angry with the Police, i think they did the best they could, in a situation like this you would expect SOMEONE to come forward and speak of seeing or hearing something, which would have shored up the POlice case no end but all they had WAS circumstantial, what else could they do ? Fake or plant evidence ? Give the cops a break, i BET they wanted to see this scum family pay for what they did !!
Those babes also had broken bones from previous injuries...who did that ? The mother ? the father ? both?..it seems the poor wee mites were punching bags from their earliest days.
I'm the first to condemn those hideous crowds who clammer outside courtrooms baying and shreiking but i have to say, if i lived up in Auckland i think i'd join in any crowd which gathered outside the kahui " home" demanding they produce the killer.

What did that quirming look like exactly? Were you there at Court watching? Paranoid again Bomber? Get off your computer and get out for some fresh air. The outside world won't actually kill you.

Yet another case of the stupid, corrupt NZ police targetting ONE PERSON for a crime, concentrating on "investigating" anything that will fit their "theory" and ignoring or suppressing any other information that they come across.

A police spokesman was quoted as saying that they "didn't have time to interview Macsyna King".

They have "closed the case" and are pretending that it will all go away because to do anything else would tend to prove their "one eyed, lone targetting" theory to be wrong.

The case isn't closed. The Kahui defence team is laying a formal complaint with the police conduct authority and says police deliberately ignored evidence that points to Macsyna King as being the killer.

Typical.
