BREAKING NEWS: WINSTON PETERS STANDS DOWN

Winston stood down - rabbit hole now limbo-land
RNZ reporting now that Winston has offered to the PM to stand down while the SFO proceeds with its investigation. A meeting between the SFO and Winston's peeps are scheduled tomorrow morning according to RNZ.

What about appointing Ron Mark as the fill-in for Winston's portfolios? Winston: bad - NZ First: good?

It won't happen of course. If the slush funds have proved anything it is that Winston is the party.

NZ Herald now reporting:

Winston Peters has offered to stand down from his portfolios as Foreign and Racing Minister pending the Serious Fraud Office's investigation into donations to NZ First.
Helen Clark will take over Mr Peters' portfolios at Mr Peters request.
The first meeting between the SFO and Mr Peters will take place tomorrow morning, Helen Clark said in a statement released minutes ago.

Oh come on Anon, if Winston has the evidence to clear himself great, we'd all love to see it, I'm no fan of John Key, but Winston and Helens lack of direct leadership here has allowed this to build to the farce it has become - wagging your finger at us and blaming us is totally misplaced, if the old fox can snatch victory out of the jaws of defeat I'll be over the moon, but it better be great evidence.

I have defended Helen, but aknowledge that John Key was pretty sharp on this, is Bob Jones a cunning old dog, sure - but he hasn't had an explanation that can be accepted, and Glen Owens doesn't have a reason to lie. You are right, the amounts are pitiful and this pales when you compare the damage the National Party are preparing to wreck upon the country, but like I said, the lack of direct action laid the foundations for this cock up.

- you started drinking real early. Probably passed out at 10. Peter Williams - Peter, not "Dagid" Williams - also got Mr Asia off a heroine charge - so what.

What does his strenuous assurances about his personal friend Winston Peters prove except his loyalty and that he may get the privilege of billing him at some point. A bill to be paid for by parliamentary or ministerial services? or by the wealthy interests that might now pay again to keep their dodgy dealings out of the public domain?

It proves Winston has engaged his Criminal lawyer - that's why Winston is not fronting his bagman lawyer, Brian Henry. He just does the trust paperwork and handles the cheques. This has escalated to criminal barristers. Williams is good too - he's an old pro.

There is a chance that the only action to come out of this SFO investigation will be a fuller revelation of all the cute methods Winston has used over the years to fund being Winston. The deception and financial slights of hand may carry no criminal consequences, that's quite possible, but what the paper trail will uncover in conjunction with the parliamentary privilieges committee hearings will dishearten some NZ First supporters and confirm to the other 95% that Winston is a lying shyster.

We are starting to see all the hustler's card tricks - and it is as politically mesmerising as only Winston could make it.

They kept her under wraps quite well didn't they. Very aggressive move by the GOP - this will make a close contest even closer. Smart counter-balance by them. To the rest of the world it appears that the US has matured (as far as diversity goes) but under the surface much remains the same.

Anon 8:17am:
It'll be a sad day when friendly jibes have to be prefaced with " *joke* ". It rather ruins it.

This is the end of politics for Winston Peters I'm afraid -regardless of the outcome of this investigation.
But you guys will not be formally told this until election time.
