Black Prof, arrested in house by white cop (hilarious)

It’s hard being the first black president isn’t it? When a white cop can arrest a black professor in his own house after accidentally tripping the house alarm, even after the black professor shows the white cop he owns the house you can’t call that white police officer stupid. You have to get chummy and invite them both over for a beer rather than vocalize outrage at such blatant institutionalized racism. Get up and get, get down, 911 is a joke in your town may be true, but you sure as hell can’t admit it, even if you’re the President of the United States.

There’s a reason they call it the White House.

Transcript of police radio transmissions

Bomber, your facts are off.

It wasn't a house alarm, a witness called Police and stated that she believed two males were possibly breaking into a house at that address.

The professor began screaming abuse at the officer sent to investigate and was arrested on a disorderly behaviour charge when he came out of his house and continued to scream abuse calling the officer racist and saying that he didn't know who he was messing with.

Its quite clear that the officer involved was not racially motivated, ironically he himself being a lecturer in racial inequality and the dangers of racial profiling as well as how to avoid it.

Obama jumped the mark without knowing the facts to support his friend and made a public statement, now that we know more of the facts he's acting appropriately and apologizing.

Are there racist cops and practices in the states? probably, was this one of them, no.

What did the African American Police officer, who was partnered with Officer Crowley say about the actions of his fellow officer?

What is Officer's Crowley background in relation to diversity issues within the Police force?

Bomber

Have you actually been following this story or have you already racially profiled it all out? Black good, white bad, police bad, white police even worse......

The Professor sounds like a right uppety arsehole. Being black doesn't give you the right to be an arsehole to Cops and expect them to treat you any differently to anyone else who is difficult. Sorry.

Police officers of every race are supporting the actions of the Police officer in America.

Break into your own house in view of people who can't recognise you or know that you live there and of course the Police will be called. If you are a prick when the Police arrive, then they will act accordingly.

But the most stoopid was Obama who racially profiled the story before you did. Black good, white bad, police bad, white police even worse....

Bomber think above said it - Daily Show did a good segment on it when it first came out. Combination of jet lagged proffessor and unfortunate series of events.

The Professor of African/American studies at Harvard tripped the alarm when he broke into his house. A witness saw them break in and call the police but didn't specify race, which the Officer afterwards claimed had been specified (the tapes were released showing the witness didn't specify race).

The professor began screaming abuse at the officer sent to investigate and was arrested on a disorderly behaviour charge when he came out of his house and continued to scream abuse calling the officer racist and saying that he didn't know who he was messing with.
If the fucking cops had turned up at my house and immediatly assumed I had broken in to my house because I had tattoos, I'd react in the same way as well, get the fuck out of my house and off my propoerty. That this cop had the audacity to then arrest the Professor of African/American studies at Harvard for the bullshit charge (later dropped) of disrupting the peace on his own property is a direct example of the type of institutionalized racism that the Professor of African/American studies at Harvard had spent the last 40 years researching

Its quite clear that the officer involved was not racially motivated, ironically he himself being a lecturer in racial inequality and the dangers of racial profiling as well as how to avoid it.
It's quite clear how biased those programs are and it's quite clear that this white cop saw a black guy in a wealthy area and pursued investigating beyond where he should have provoking the response he did. Institutionalized racism, show me where in the witness call she mentioned the two suspects were black? He claimed it as part of his defence, but that wasn't what he was told was it?

Obama jumped the mark without knowing the facts to support his friend and made a public statement, now that we know more of the facts he's acting appropriately and apologizing.
The facts are known two cops turn up - NOT BEING TOLD THE SUSPECTS ARE BLACK - see a black guy in a rich house - he get's shitty because it's his house, they arrest him - institutionalized racism.

Are there racist cops and practices in the states? probably, was this one of them, no.
It's that mindset that stops any real progress occuring, if you can't see a Professor of African/American studies at Harvard getting arrested in his hown house isn't an example of the Police narrow view on the world that's your handicap, go deal with it somewhere else.

What did the African American Police officer, who was partnered with Officer Crowley say about the actions of his fellow officer?
I'm curious, did the South African security forces during apartheid have black members Curious George. You're slipping Curious.

What is Officer's Crowley background in relation to diversity issues within the Police force?
He carries out the exact courses that are supposed to deal with racial profiling, other than the irony what does this prove? I believe the Police also run courses to stop Police corruption, so I suppose that problem must also be dealt with as well is it curious?

Kate, Kate, Kate - you are running out of things to defend this week aren't you mate, bludgers who have lower legal rights than the rest of us and now white cop arrests the Prof. of Afro-American studies in his own home? I can't wait to hear your justification for when John Key eats a baby live on TV.

Whats that got to do with anything?

If a Police officer arrives at your address, knocks on the door, tells you that hes investigating a report of two males breaking into this address and are you the lawful occupant, would you still then yell and scream at him for doing his job?

Contrary to what you and others might believe you don't have the right to abuse and swear at Police in this country or in America if your doing so within sight or hearing of the general public who also have the right not to be subjected to your behaviour. Do it in a private place or out of sight or hearing of the public and its legal.

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to suggest that this was racist. Unless your suggesting that Police either

A. wouldn't investigate a report of two white people breaking into a house.

B. would allow any white person to get away with the same type of behaviour without being arrested.

Arseholes get arrested all the time, regardless of race or colour.

The Professor of Afro-American studies at Harvord told the cop who he was, what was the cop's reaction?

Officer 52: I’m up with a gentleman who says he resides here (background voice) but uncooperative. But uh, keep the cars coming.

Keep dem car's a comin. A white Progessor in his own home wouldn't have been arrested, it's as simple as that. I notice you back tracking a little on the point that the cop wasn't told the suspects were black but assumed they were in his later statement defedning his actions.

Ohhh, so because the black professor on african-american studies from Harvard was lippy to a cop that makes his arrest in his own home okay does it bosco?

There is absolutely no evidence whatsoever to suggest that this was racist. Unless your suggesting that Police either

This is 100% institutionalized racism because that's exactly what I am saying , a white professor in his own home would not have been arrested. The white cop turns up at a wealthy property, hasn't been told the suspects are black, assumes they are, doesn't like the black proffessor getting lippy with him and arrests the black professor in his own fucking house.

Do you need to see bedsheets on peoples heads and a burning cross before you see racism Bosco?

Arseholes get arrested all the time, regardless of race or colour.
And plenty of cops are arseholes.

And you Bomber will accuse John Key of eating a baby when all he was doing was holding it for it's mother.

Bomber is there a single time you actually read the facts before crying "racist", "classist", "beneficiary basher"?

Unlike you Bomber I am actually in America at the moment and have been surrounded in their news for the past month. This story has been given massive legs all week as Obama FUCKED it all up.

Ruth - I'm sure if I go out in the street in New York now and act as an uppity white person to a US police officer I will get similar treatment.

If a criminal had any sense they would clean out Gates' home while he's off having a beer in Washington with his buddy Obama.

There won't be a single Cop of any race who will answer a call-out to that address from now on for fear of being deemed racist for doing their job.

Sgt James Crowley is such a racist Bomber than he swapped spit trying to revive black Celtics basketball player Reggie Lewis. Not generally the actions of someone who is descendant of the Klan. Even the pinko (non-Fox) news here has been carrying that story.

Henry Gates on the other hand has actively preached anti-white bigotry and is known for his "don't you know who I am" attitude for being a buddy of Obama.

If Henry Gates was a white man Bomber (and a friend of Bush's) you would think he got what he deserved for being a prick to a Policeman answering a callout.

Bosco the Bear, and Kate the Cactus Eater - I don't think either of you actually understand how this story purportedly went down - from an American prospective.

Reportedly The Prof. went home and couldn't get the door open, so he and his driver attempted to force it. A neighbour saw them and called the cops.
The cops responded, and while at the door asked the Prof. to step outside his house, after the Prof. produced Identification that showed he owned the house.
The racial issue that arose was the prof. refused to step outside, knowing full well that he would be stepping out of his own domain protected under the law, and into the domain of the Public, which would set him up for the tactics of the police to able to strip him of his eminent domain right to privacy.
The Prof. resisted, which apparently from the reports , pissed off the cop who in turn ramped up the heat in which the Prof. responded in kind - things got tense, and the Cop and Prof. overreacted which ended up in the precinct house with the Prof being cuffed and arrested unfairly in his own home.

The moral of the story is - the police had no right to arrest the Prof. for mouthing off to him, but the police do this all the time in America, more to black people than white people by a high statistic. The Prof. made more of the racial issue because he is used to living in a racist society such as the reality of American life. America is a police state - you need to understand that first off.
The stupidity in this issue is that the President got involved in this thing to begin with, and made a knee jerk reaction in support of the Prof. (a fellow black man) over the White Cop. This is so typically American! I hope like hell that we don't end up with a police state here like over there where they shoot, tazer, or arrest first and ask questions later.
I hope our police will use better judgement in situations like this, that will allow some civil discourse to determine if any law has been violated, and not use the colour of someone's skin as the marker against allowing an on the spot reasonable communication and solution to occur.
This is just another sensational pile of blown out of all proportion BS coming out of the cesspool called United States as a means of establishing a subliminal message within mixed societies to not mouth off to the police because of the consequences of questioning their power and motivations - especially if you are wearing a different colour skin than the predominant White one!
So was it racially motivated? Yes on both parts - The police and the Professor - simply a case of real life in America that the media got ahold of and blew out of proportion.

Good summery of events by Sam that shakes out the myth that the Professor hadn't shown ID...

Really, so if a white professor had gone outside his home and proceeded to yell abuse at the Police they would simply have ignored it and let him go, yknow cos he's white and all and they don't arrest white people for public order offences....

Do you actually have any evidence whatsoever that the officer is racist or that he wouldn't arrest a white person in the same situation?

How many other white Professors have been arrested in their own home after showing id on the grounds of a break in. It was the cops institutionalized racism that led him to believe the suspects were black when the race wasn’t reported.

Where's my comment in response to your vitriol Bomber?
I apologize Kate, I was out for some of the day, don’t you fret, being a blogger of some standing on the right you are always free to post you class hatred of solo mothers as sub legal and defence of institutionalized racist cops who arrest black professors in their homes on Tumeke any day of the week. I’m always fascinated at your attempt to become an apologist after 9 years of your party on the opposition benches. Your words are honey to my cynical heart.

Based on some of your silly assertions, I think you need to get an understanding of what institutionalized racism is. Oh and being surrounded by biased American news media I’m not surprised you aren’t blogging the needs to invade Iran Kate, being in the epicenter of the eye of morder isn’t much of a claim for journalistic integrity now is it?

In fact get real uppity so he can put a cap in your cracker ass.

btw; now that they have dropped the charges the professor should sue the stupid police officer.

If it had been a white professor, my bet is he and officer Crowley would have had a laugh about it.

I don't blame prof. Gates for getting defensive and pissed off as he would obviously know a shitload more about racism and police bias towards Black Americans in America than anyone posting on this blog, and would be well equipped to recognise it happening on his own doorstep.
