Latest excuse to attack Iran

Iran tests two short-range missiles: reports
Iran test-fired short-range missiles as its elite Revolutionary Guards began war games on Sunday aimed at boosting the Islamic Republic's deterrent capabilities, official media reported. The missile manoeuvres coincide with increased tension in Iran's nuclear dispute with the West, after last week's disclosure by Tehran that it is building a second uranium enrichment plant.

Coming out and claiming Iran has a secret weapons programme is almost like that secret weapons programme we invaded Saddam Hussien for, remember the weapons of mass destruction that never existed? When it comes to military intelligence and weapons of mass destruction, do we actually believe America anymore? I’m sorry, but I have to see Ahmadinejad personally out the front of this secret military compound doing a live as seen on TV infomercial selling weapon grade uranium to terrorist organizations and rogue nations before I agree to another war on a Middle Eastern country for weapons of mass destruction. Hope and Change is one thing, total memory blackout of the last 8 years is another.

Iran revealed the "secret" enrichment plant itself in a letter written to the IAEA. So your claim that it is a US fabrication is both amusing and ignorant.

I would give credence to the US lead concern re Iran ..when the US also demanded from Israel they stop their aggressive behaviour such as the illegal settlments demand they be punnished over deaths and destruction in Gaza...demanded they dismantle the "Berlin Wall" installed on illegal confiscated Palestine land ...

US demand Israel allow US inspectors to go into Israel and look for possible nuclear weaponary sites ..if any found demand all be destroyed.

By the way I am curious does US GB France etc have any nuclear wapons themselves ?

Since when did the US need your permission to launch a military strike Bomber?

Besides Israels going to be on point for this if their programme goes live.

I have followed the campaign against Iran since almost the start, 2003.
The thing is, Iran's nuclear programme is entirely legal and within the auspices of the IAEA. There is no proven wrongdoing at all. Just the usual, "can not verify they're not hiding blahblahblah."

The only reason Iran can be discussed with such heat is that the IAEA's board of governors - international diplomats - referred it to the Security Council as "non-compliant".

The board normally operates by consensus, but had the mandate to pass it on by super majority (66%). So this one time, they did not operate by consensus, but passed Iran as "non-compliant" by one vote. India's.

Here is an article referencing the admission that the US coerced this vote from India. http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=4851

Here is India's explanation of vote, where they say they'd prefer this not to go to the Security Council, that Iran are compliant - but they're voting against Iran anyway.

This was 2005, the turning point in a media campaign that had already been going 3 years. Everything we've seen since, including the sham 2 month presidential campaign of Mousavi, and the "social media outcry" about the result is just more noise and media-dressing, trying to create a crisis for a Security Council debate to legitimate dropping the bomb.

Yawn, yep, let's follow the US on another WMD treasure hunt again shall we? I find your need to believe everything the US says amusing and ignorant, I'm not denying they have a secret enrichment plant, I'm negating the very same slow drumbeat for war that accompanied the last bullshit excuse for conflict.

How many countries has Iran invaded?

Interesting stuff Fantail, cheers.

Perhaps the best argument against the US attacking Iran is that they can't afford it.

I imagine the US bureaucracy is packed full of people who were around in 1979 and are frothing at the mouth to take them.

Wont happen.

Was the plant that the Iranians have been forced to disclose recently kept secret from the IAEA in breach of international agreements or not?

Bomber: So Iraq never had weapons of mass destruction? Never had a programme. Never used them. Never had a secret nuclear programme (that was destroyed). Never had a supergun (that was destroyed). Consistently let inspectors visit everything they requested.

All just lies and spin was it?

Iran is such a model international citizen as well, I mean there is no record of funding, training and arming insurgency groups in many countries, including the UK, it has a human rights record akin to its neighbours, and never EVER calls for the destruction of a UN member state. It wouldn't murder minors for victimless crimes, it runs fair and free open elections where dissent and a range of views and parties are allowed.

It's all just spin and hysteria from the entire western world, supported by Iran's neighbours and the whole Arab world (albeit rather quietly).

Good job it has such friendly relations with such stellar regimes as Sudan and North Korea, they know who has the moral authority don't they?

Oh really Liberty? Could you please show us where the WMD that could be deployed within 40 odd minutes that was a threat to the rest of the planet that was the reason going into Iraq. Now when you remove the WMDs that the west didn't sell Iraq, could you just show us where these pesky weapons of mass destruction are?

I'm surprised you've been so quiet with this secret information you have on Saddams WMDs, I mean Bush himself should be calling you, aftrer all he didn't find any and it destroyed his reputation, yet you Liberty know where they are, please enlighten the rest of us...

Yup on all of the above, and even if THAT "member" State ignores all the UN resolutions that have been levelled against it for over 40 years, and is still murdering it's Citizen's who are being kept in an Apartheid manner, as well as it's neighbour (Palestine), and the rest of the neighbourhood Syria, Lebanon, and Somalia. You know those "Good Guys with the White lil Beanies" and the secret nuclear arsenal of their very own. They're just upholding the "Truth" right Liberty???

Liberty Scot, you wouldn't by chance be Jewish would you???

The Iran bogey man is making an appearance in order to make / allow the Americans to take pressure of Israel for a peace settlement in Palestine. Vistually all these panics since 2000 have been conjured up to undermine efforts to pressure Israel to deal in good faith with respect to the REAL problem in the Middle east and between the Western and Arab worlds: Palestine.

Last week I was listening to stories of Hillary Clinton seeking commitments from Israel...and wondered if the Iran bogeyman wabout to re-invoked.

Sho'nuff.

Bomber: You are denying Iraq used chemical weapons? You are denying the supergun and the Osirak nuclear plant? How willfully blind are you?

The simple point is that Iraq long had and used WMDs, what happened to them between Desert Storm and the invasion is a very good question. However, no one can credibly deny the Hussein regime had WMDs. Hussein after all, acted as if he had something to hide, repeatedly.

Yes there were Europeans who sold WMD equipment to Iraq, but does that mean that this mistake can't be acknowledged and the regime can be turned on for what it is?

Kerry: I don't watch Fox News you rude prick, or did Osirek and the 15 poison gas attacks Iraq undertook evade your tiny mind too?

Sam Clemenz: It is a "member" state, funnily enough, although you are willing to accept non-states like Somalia as being legitimate. No I'm not Jewish, but good on you for showing implicit anti-semitism and superficiality. I don't think Israel should have been created, but it exists now and has a right to defend itself. It abandoned Gaza and then Gaza became a staging ground for attacks, but I guess that's ok isn't it? Hamas, who promote martyrdom to children, are such heroes, would be great for all of Palestine to live under Islamist tyranny. Phew good job you're living in New Zealand with free speech, freedom of religion and no real threat of Islamism hitting you.

Why such sympathy for an odious religious fundamentalist dictatorship that treats its citizens as subjects that can be executed if they dare challenge the faith? It can't just be closet anti-Americanism or a real desire to see Israel wiped off the map, can it?
