Pike River Mine won't be solved within a Keither Sutherland hyper reality TV drama time frame

Hmmm, the public seem shocked that a real world crises isn't solved within a Keither Sutherland hyper reality TV drama kind of way

The-Bloke-down-pub brigade seem to think that rescuers at the Pike Mine should have just popped on a couple of Bio-Hav suits and scooted down for a rescue which is an understandable frustration when the mine owner is blaming robots who need fresh air to work in for delays.

Sadly real life crises don't move with the speed of narrative squeezed between adverts and the real world pain can't be eased by speeding up an unsafe rescue. The Police should be applauded for their caution and the integrity of their role in assessing the appropriate response.

Respects to the West Coast community, it has been a bloody hard year for the mainland.

What would be horrifying is if after all the delays/caution/waiting conditions dont improve & they end up sending men in anyway... and they reach them too late.
It truly is Hero time because time is running out.
Yeah there's risks, but there's people willing to take them & miners who by now are desperate.
Sometimes in order to save the maiden from the dragon, someone has to put their arse on the line & fight the dragon..
Awful situation.

you have it so spot on Bomber, the attention span of goldfish - yet EVERYbody is a fucking expert, every press conference the same -"why the delay in going in?"

Die of thirst or die of a botched rescue attempt..
How long can a human go without water?
A rescue attempt at the very least is an 'attempt'.

Well fuck me!

The bloody mine tunnel is clear of gas from the portal to the ventiator shaft, which is sighted close to where at least 6 of the miners may be laying injured, and still the gutless cops sit on their fat arses and do nothing except make excuses.

Events have proven the wisdom and prudence of the police and mine rescue to hold back.

Had they acceded to ill-considered demands that rescuers go charging in - more lives would've been lost.

And unfortunately, it's not the anonymous bloggers who would've been held to account for any rash decision.

The police and mine rescue got it right.

Pass.

The mine tunnel further in was filled with toxic gas - including methane.

Had rescuers gone in, gung-ho, we would've seen a greater loss of life.

Thank the gods for cool heads.
